Lifeguard Training (15+ years old) The course presents information on the skills and knowledge lifeguards need in pool, lake, river, surf, and waterpark environments. The comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to lifeguard by anticipating and preventing problems before they occur and by taking action to help those in danger when necessary. Students must attend every class-NO EXCEPTIONS.

Physical Competency Requirements

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency services (EMS) personnel take over. Students must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course. Students must also pass a skills test on the first day of the course. Certification requirements include: Attend and participate in all class sessions, demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios, and pass two final written exams with a minimum grade of 80%.
