8:00 AM-4:30 PM
Full time through September 8th, With the Possibility of a Year-Round Position

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Cortland YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Day Camp Director at the Cortland YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for all administrative programmatic aspects of Cortland YMCA summer camp.
  2. Enable proactive, clear, effective, and timely internal communications in order to ensure a positive and consistent camp and/or program experience.
  3. Develop staff profiles and skill requirements, including customer service and child care skills. Identify gaps and help coordinate training as needed. Direct overall ongoing staff assessment to ensure that staff are operationally effective.
  4. Develop, plan and implement procedures and methods to achieve department goals.
  5. Provide guidance to marketing department to help meet registration goals, and implement marketing efforts successfully, including community events, direct mail, newspaper ads, and other marketing channels.
  6. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
  7. Attends, participates, and leads in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with children in an active setting, including knowledge of recreation and environmental activities.
  • Strong Customer Service, Time Management and Organizational skills.
  • Strong fiscal management and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage all situations with poise applying effective judgement and sound decision making.
  • Strong commitment to following all sanitation procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build team spirit, communicate with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and take initiative that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.
  • Strong computer skills, software proficiency with Microsoft applications.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required.
  • Child abuse training required within 30 days of starting the position.
