Youth Policies
YMCA Fitness Center Policy:
For safety concerns, no one under the age of 14 is allowed in the YMCA Fitness Center, unless enrolled in a YMCA program with an instructor present. No shoes worn into the Y from outside are to be used on the cardio equipment. Mud/water/salt quickly add to the degradation of the equipment.
Youth Supervision Policy:
The Cortland County Family YMCA has specific policies for child safety.
Children age 12 and under shall be supervised by an adult while at the Y except during a program in which the child is enrolled.
Pool/Aquatic Policy:
In addition to the Supervision Policy, children age 5 and under must be within arm’s reach of a supervising adult in the water.

Accessibility
The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities. Together we work to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, age, cultural background, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, ideology, income, national origin, race or sexual orientation has the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity. Our core values are caring, honesty, respect and responsibility – they guide everything we do.
Accessibility
The senior staff at the Cortland YMCA recently underwent Inclusion U training and evaluation by the IRRC through SUNY Cortland. In a move to create a more accessible Y, we’re concentrating on several key areas to create a Y that provides a welcoming and functional environment for the entire community.
View the Cortland YMCA’s Assessment in the IRRC’s Inclusion Rec Database for more information on our inclusion-readiness.
Public Transportation
The Cortland Transit bus system makes it easy to access the Cortland YMCA. The Route Four bus line, which leaves the County Office Building every 30 minutes, stops in front of the YMCA. For more information on the local bus system, or to plan out your route, visit the Cortland Transit website. All buses are equipped with a wheelchair lift.
