Dear Cortland YMCA Members and Community,
We know you’re looking forward to the pool opening again, and we are, too.
Unfortunately, we started Monday morning with the discovery of a leaking pool jet pipe, and at least two additional pipes that are in need of immediate repair so they don’t spring any new leaks.
We’re working with two local companies to get the pipes repaired. Because of how our pool was constructed (nearly 60 years ago!), the repairs requires a special tool, now on it’s way, but not expected until the end of this week. We will be repairing the pipes leading to all ten of our pool jets to prevent this from being a problem again in the future, but that is going to take some time.
Our hope is that the pool will be open by the end of next week, by the time we refill (again), and reheat the water. We know this has been a frustratingly long wait, but please know that we are doing our best to get you back into the pool.
I also wanted to take this moment to let you know that our aquatics director, Madisyn Zimmer, will be leaving the Y for a new opportunity. Her last day is this Friday (5/5/2023). While we will miss having her here, we know she’s going to shine in her new role, and we couldn’t be more excited for what her future will bring. We wish her nothing but the best.
However, if you’re a regular in the pool, you know just how constant of a presence she was in the lifeguard chair (and in the chemical rooms, and everywhere else there were pool or program things to be done). Coupled with the college students getting ready to leave for the semester, we do anticipate some disruption to our regular schedule. We are working hard to bring in new lifeguards (including offering free certifications; please email Margo at firstname.lastname@example.org for details), and we will share an updated weekly schedule as soon as we’re ready to reopen after the repairs. This schedule will get emailed out, posted on social media, and be made available at the desk.
We will be sharing new information as soon as we get it, and please feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns.
