Come and join the fun at the Cortland County Family YMCA for session 8 fall programs for youth and families! Engage and empower your little Olympian this fall through our swimming, gymnastics and karate programming. The Y will be hosting an open house and Free swim this Saturday September 10 from 1-3 p.m. to showcase some of our great programming and facility options! Demonstrations for karate and gymnastics are scheduled.
The Y is pleased to offer the longest running gymnastics program in the county, directed by Coach Sharon Shattuck. Progressive classes are offered Monday through Thursday and Saturday with Pre-School and toddler programs, upstairs at the JM McDonald Sports Complex. For those with more advanced skills we offer advanced programming and tumbling, but for those who have what it takes and have a competitive nature, gymnasts may become a member of our Comet’s Gymnastics Team. Gymnastics is much more than tumbling, and can offer strength, flexibility and confidence for any sport. Do you have what it takes to become the next great gymnast?
Koie-Kan Karate has held a dojo at the Cortland YMCA for 36 years and is a mixture of Karate, Ju-Jitsu, Judo, Kubodo (weapons) Kung-Fu and many other Martial Arts. It is an authentic traditional Martial art and is taught by Nidan, 2nd degree black belt Peter Korolov and assisted by Shodan Carter O’Gorman. Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday with youth karate (ages 7-12) starting at 6:30 p.m. and Adult (13+) at 7:30 p.m. Costs vary with age and Y membership status. You do not need to be a member to participate, and payments are monthly.
