To Our YMCA Members and Community,
In these unprecedented times, we are taking steps necessary to keep our staff, members, participants, and community safe.
As of 12:00 PM today, we are closing our facility. We are tentatively looking to reopen on April 1st, depending on the situation with COVID-19 at that time. Youth programs are delayed until the schools open (currently set for April 13th).
We understand that the closure of our facility feels sudden, but we are confident that this is the right decision, not only for our facility, but for the community as a whole. We are following the recommendations of the government and local health department, and look forward to reopening as soon as possible.
It’s more important than ever to live our YMCA mission of serving and strengthening our communities. We cannot serve you in person, but we will be sharing resources for your continued wellness through our Facebook page and on our website.
We know you have questions. We do, too. These are trying times, and we are all doing our best to continue to meet the needs of our members and community. All of us at the Cortland YMCA are grateful for your support and understanding, and we are committed to ensuring the future of our YMCA, and all of our great programs and services, as these uncertain times continue. Closure for any length of time represents a significant threat to our non-profit.
We cannot express the potentially devastating impact an extended closure could have. We know the Cortland County Family YMCA is an extension of your family, and we remain honored and committed to serving you, just as we have served you for the last 152 years.
Here is what we can share with you:
- Summer camp is still set to run as scheduled, but our spring Crime Solvers Vacation Club has been cancelled. We will reach out to registered families personally to discuss options.
- The Spring Run 5k will be rescheduled for a later date. We will post a date as soon as we can.
- Those currently enrolled in youth sports and aquatics will be notified when our programs resume, and we will continue our programs at that time.
- All members have a choice. You can consider your regularly scheduled membership payment a donation to the Cortland YMCA. If this is your choice—thank you. If you would like to do something different, we are also offering members the option to extend your membership by the length of time of the closure. This change will take place closer to our re-open date. Your membership will still charge through if it is scheduled between now and then. If you would like this option, please email us at ymca@cortlandymca.org. It may take a day or two to respond to your email. There will be no one staffing our facility after 4:00 PM on 3/16/2020, so please do not call.
Whatever you choose, we thank you for your support and understanding. Please take care of yourself and one another. Our community is strong, and together, we will get through this.
